weld inspection features

SOFRATEST provides Ultrasonic inspection solutions for the off-line weld inspection of SAW pipes, outside the production line.

Prior to inspection, the pipe is loaded onto the trolley by the loading arms, allowing it to be transported below the UT control station. The trolley enables the pipe to move forward and spin around. Once the laser detects the weld and and everything is ready,  the inspection process can begin.

Several defects can be detected:

  • Internal/External longitudinal and transverse defects detection in the weld (several configurations of probe arrangement are available : I, K, X)
  • Lamination defects detection in the Heat Affected Zone (HAZ), in the pipe body and in the ends of the pipe
  • Midwall weld defects detection
  • Loss of coupling detection

A dynamic calibration can be performed: a standard tube is positioned below the head to allow all settings to be made.

A laser tracking system is available on the Ultrasonic head to follow the weld and enable the probes to adjust their positions themselves.

Phased Array sensors can be seamlessly integrated into the SOFRATEST system.

The SOFRATEST inspection head design adapts perfectly to the different curvatures, thickness and diameters of the pipes, enabling a 100% inspection of the product.

Pipe body/ENDs inspection features

In addition to standard weld inspection, SOFRATEST offers advanced mechanical systems to perform complementary inspections, such as pipe body inspection directly on the production line.

To offer the best solutions as possible to our customers and to be compliant with the mains international standards, SOFRATEST can offer a total inspection or a partial inspection of the pipe body:

  • For a partial inspection, the body oscillator swings between the two welds area. The customization of body oscillator mechanics, oscillation speed and probe characteristics is available to meet specific customer needs and requirements.
  • For a total inspection, a row of probes is installed on the pipe body and cover 100% of the space between the two weld zones. The customization of probe characteristics and mechanic is available to meet specific customer needs and requirements.

This process, easy to integrate, enables the detection of lamination defects and coupling losses within the pipe body.

Customization of the test heads is also possible to allow inspection of the pipe ends.

SOFRATEST SOFTWARE

With our robust and user-friendly software, the results of the Ultrasonic inspection are displayed in real-time.

The system screen is accessible remotely, providing a clear, global view of the ongoing inspection and allowing necessary adjustments to be made in real-time, including gate definition, gain management, marking system settings etc.

Traceability is ensured by our production software, creating comprehensive and customizable inspection reports/calibration reports.
